Founded in 2005, the Samba Kidz program encourages children to "find their groove" and discover their creativity through music, art and drama in a non-competitive and supportive environment.
The Samba Kidz mandate is to inspire and empower inner-city youth in Toronto through participation in the arts. Throughout the workshops, young artists develop self-esteem, nurture pride in their community and enhance success in their everyday lives. Samba Kidz is making a long-term investment in Toronto’s youth raising funds through government and private sector grants to offer affordable after-school and summer programming to families.

Children seven to fourteen years of age experience a wide spectrum of artistic areas, not seen in most other programs. Youth work together with professionals from Samba Squad, Red Pepper Spectacle Arts, Circle Sing! and community members to develop self-esteem and empower themselves to produce group-inspired performances.
The main focus of the program is on process and participation, so everyone is included and guaranteed "success." Children learn to play music, write stories, act out the plot, create and design costumes, props and décor all the way through to stage production. They learn to share their experiences and develop the skills and attitudes to help them succeed and become good leaders.
Since its inception, the Samba Kidz program has directly affected over 125 children and families and touching hundreds of people in some of Toronto’s most culturally diverse communities. Diverse communities have benefited greatly from the Samba Kidz program; improving intercultural communication skills and helping families integrate into the Toronto community.
